Nico Carstens - Die Grasskop Polka

Linklater is an inspired director, but I'm not a huge fan of "Slacker", however, I thoroughly enjoyed the ending and for some reason intensely like this song. Nico Carstens has a minuscule web presence and I couldn't find this polka on itunes or anywhere else.

Thanks for this. I've been searching for this song for a long time and this is as close as I've come so far!

BTW, nice site. I see you have a very good eye - whatever that means.

The song is called "Skokiaan", originally recorded by the Bulawayo Sweet Rhythm Band in South Africa in 1947. It became a worldwide phenomenon and has been covered by a number of artists including Louis Armstrong and Bill Haley. There is a song called "Die Graskop Polka" by South African band leader Horst Wende that sounds more like what we would think of as polka, and nothing like "Skokiaan". Hope that helps!

emlord is correct - Nico Carstens also called the song "Die Graskop Polka" Graskop is a little town in what used to be called the Northern Transvaal in South Africa. Nico first called the tune "Skokiaan" on his 1959 "Goue Plaat" (Columbia 33JSX 11015) and in 1963 he renamed it to "Die Graskop Polka" (as part of a medley) on his Album "Op Toer" (Columbia 33JSX 11046). I love the song so much, I used it in a video I made: http://youtu.be/L8tFDUOraHI . But I too have looked everywhere and couldn't find it so I recorded the audio from "Slacker".
